Netherlands/New measures for Netherlands’s EPS industry to deal with marine pollution
Aesop Bois, a Dutch member of EUMEPS, fully accepted the concept of circular theory and circular architecture, and adopted the 10R circular model in its operation. This requires making and using smarter products, extending product life, and effectively using surplus materials instead of turning them into waste. The Netherlands Institute of Building Biology and Ecology (NIBE) independently tested almost the entire product range of Aesop Bois and scientifically proved that EPS has the lowest environmental impact compared with other insulation alternatives. The excellent score of the National Environmental Database (NMD) also confirms this. Aesop Bois’s parent company, Bevisimbra, has recently established an independent business unit dedicated to circular insulation, “Bevisimbra-Circular”. The goal of the project is to collect and recycle EPS materials in Europe, and set a mid-term recycling goal of 60,000 tons of EPS for itself.
Portugal/New measures for Portugal’s EPS industry to deal with marine pollution
Portugal Bevisimbra-Circulation has partnered with Doka Pescado to launch a pilot project aimed at collecting EPS fish boxes from almost all fishing ports in Portugal. The initiative is to install fish cages in the port so that the fish tanks can be placed in an accessible place for easy collection, while preventing any waste from flowing into the sea. Once the waste is collected, it is easier to adopt corresponding treatment methods, and can reduce transportation and logistics problems and costs. So far, the response to this initiative has been positive, and EPS waste in ports and markets has been greatly reduced.
Denmark/New measures for Denmark’s EPS industry to deal with marine pollution
The EPS industry in Denmark is taking strong measures to reduce waste in the production process and prevent any pollution from entering the environment. All EPS producers in Denmark are members of the association and will also have to become members of the environmental plan called “Clean Action”. The EPS industry in Denmark is composed of most of the EPS production companies in Denmark, with 13 company members in total. The industry emphasizes that EPS production does not involve high emissions, but it is still committed to preventing emissions as much as possible during the entire production process. The focus of the industry also includes increasing the recovery rate of EPS while reducing waste in the production process. All EPS producers, including non-members of the Danish EPS industry, will be strongly encouraged to join the “Clean Action”, with the aim of sharing the responsibility of creating a better environment for all producers.
