In a subsea SURF transportation & installation project campaign, the deployment, loadout and mobilisation of the SURF always require large reel to carry and extend them when necessary. In an ideal world the reel sizes would be as variable as the SURF.
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) geofoam, is a form of lightweight thermal plastic produced in sheets or large blocks. Since it first hit the market more than 60 years ago, it has been used primarily for filling voids in soil created during construction projects like highways, bridge embankments, and parking lots.
The geofoam has the scientific name of expanded polystyrene (EPS). A block of EPS is made from particles of polystyrene through an expanding and melting process in an automatic mold machine by adding steam. The geofoam construction method employs large EPS blocks with unit weights between 16 and 40 kg/m3.
