The Vermont ban on plastics in the United States was officially implemented on July 1, 2020. According to regulations, EPS food packaging will no longer be provided by stores and food service agencies. If a store purchases these EPS packaging products before May 15, 2019, it can still be used up before July 1, 2021. In addition, EPS is still allowed to be used for the packaging of meat, fish, poultry, and seafood, as well as the packaging or sale of products outside of Vermont. This use is not within the scope of the ban.
The Maryland State Department of Environment issued an announcement that affected by the new crown pneumonia pandemic, the previous “Environmental Provisions” Article 9-2203(b) stipulated that “food service companies must stop selling or supply EPS products for food service” The deadline for the decree was extended from July 1, 2020 to October 1, 2020. According to Article 9-2203(a) of the Regulations: Local food service companies and schools can continue to use the existing EPS food service product inventory until October 1, 2020, but will not be able to purchase extra after July 1 EPS food service products.
On April 19, the ex-factory quotation of Tianjin Longwang EPS was stable. The average price was 10,700 yuan/ton, and the fuel resistance was 11,000 yuan/ton. The EPS market shipments were flat, and downstream purchases were mainly demanded. Some merchants were cautious and waited for opportunities to replenish their positions. It is expected that short-term domestic EPS prices may be weaker.
