Oxygen index refers to the lower limit of oxygen concentration required for the sample to maintain stable combustion in the mixed flow of oxygen and nitrogen under specified conditions, which is expressed by the volume percentage of oxygen to nitrogen mixture.
When the oxygen index of ordinary EPS insulation material is less than 22, it will catch fire in case of open fire, and the more prosperous it is, the combustion performance grade is B3, which is flammable material. In order to improve the fire resistance of EPS, the oxygen index of EPS can be greatly increased by adding some flame retardants into the common expandable EPS resin.
According to the different properties and amount of flame retardant, the flame retardant EPS can be divided into B2 grade and B1 grade. Flame retardant EPS is a kind of self extinguishing material, that is, flame retardant EPS will be ignited in case of open fire, but it will extinguish after leaving the fire source. Therefore, flame retardant EPS is also called self extinguishing EPS.
