Lost foam casting is a process where a foam pattern of the desired part is created and coated with refractory material. This coated foam pattern is then placed into sand, which is compacted around the pattern. Molten metal is poured into the mold, vaporizing the foam pattern and replacing it with the metal, thus forming the final casting.
